A Weeping Beech in Dun na Ri Forest Park
A Weeping Beech in Dun na Ri Forest Park
This magnificent tree, here at full height with its glorious spread of cascading branches hidden behind a thick screen of leaves, is just one of many fine trees to be seen in the open parkland of Dun na Ri. In winter when the leaves of this tree fall and the drooping branches are starkly revealed, it lives up to its alternative description as a “tree of sorrow” which is sometimes found in churchyards. Through Dun na Ri Forest Park flows the deep-cut and thickly forested valley of the River Cabra, alongside which are historic reminders of the ancients who once lived here or passed this way N7897 : “Cromwell’s Bridge” in Dun na Ri Forest Park . The property, which was acquired by the Irish Forest & Wildlife Service in 1959 and developed into public parkland, is now run by Coillte who harvest the Norwegian Spruce and Oak trees which are also grown here.
