During our Scolt Island Traverse, we had seen no-one up to this point, although we eventually saw three people in the vicinity of the warden's hut. This was the first sign that we were (potentially) Being Watched.

Immediately behind the low dunes on the shoreline are salt-marshes interspersed with occasional higher ridges with dry land vegetation.

Please note: The crossing of Scolt Head Island from end to end is perfectly possible but only with careful planning and a knowledge of the tides. Do not attempt the crossing unless you are fit and know when it is low tide in the area. Cross on a falling tide and be prepared for deep mud in places at the western end.
