Wellies wouldn't work here: waders would - or you may rely on bare feet and legs, so long as you don't mind the mud, soft sand and stones. The journey isn't over yet: another kilometre of muddy/boggy path lies ahead and a final water crossing before you are on truly dry land.

The post on the skyline is the National Trust sign, a useful waymark for those crossing in the opposite direction.

Please note: The crossing of Scolt Head Island from end to end is perfectly possible but only with careful planning and a knowledge of the tides. Do not attempt the crossing unless you are fit and know when it is low tide in the area. Cross on a falling tide and be prepared for deep mud in places at the western end.
