PIRSAC in action
PIRSAC is the acronym for Port William Inshore Rescue Service Action Committee. The service was formed in 1978 after a fisherman was in difficulty near Port William and the nearest lifeboats were several miles away in Stranraer and Portpatrick. After much fund raising a semi-ridged inflatable boat was purchased and put into service, manned by volunteers. Since then there have been 210 callouts under the control of H.M. Coastguard. Normally a sea rescue service the PIRSAC also provides valuable river support for the annual raft race on the River Bladnoch.
Wigtown and District Community Festival 2012

The annual community festival in 2012 ran from Saturday 7th July until Saturday 14th July. It included something for everyone:- fancy dress competition, Wigtown Princess crowning ceremony, fishing competition, raft race on the River Bladnoch, 10k and fun run, swamp games and a car treasure hunt. The event was sponsored by many of the local businesses and shops and visiting tourists had the opportunity to experience some of the local culture in Wigtownshire.
