Ordnance boundary stone, Magilligan
Often mistaken for a bench mark, this is an old boundary stone now situated outside the Point Bar, Magilligan C6538 : Point Bar, Magilligan Point. The stone probably dates from at least c1830 as there is one shown on OS maps from that time. It was one of at least two stones that were used to delineate the boundary of the land around the nearby Martello Tower which was then controlled by the Ordnance. The "BO" stands for "Boundary (of the) Ordnance". The stones are again shown on maps of c1923 but this time described as War Department marker stones. The original location of the stone appears to have been a few hundred metres away - it has been moved here and placed on a small concrete plinth outside the bar. There is a bench mark on the bar itself - see C6538 : Flush Bracket, Magilligan.
