Castles of Munster: Aghadown, Cork
Unmarked on the OS map, and barely recognisable under a mantle of ivy are the remains of a house said to have been built by the Beecher family in 1670, and occupied by them until the C19. It comprises a surviving west wall and two of the four spear-head shaped corner flankers. These are two storeys high, their string courses indicating the two levels. The SW flanker has a hexagonal chimney stack, the outline of which can be seen under the ivy in the photo.
