This 80 feet tall round-cornered tower situated on a cliff above the Funshion river has three upper storeys reached by a spiral stair in the NW corner. The vaulted fourth storey has a chamber in the west wall, and the fifth storey has an arcade on corbels at the south end. The wall walks as well as the parapets on the side walls have been rebuilt.

This was an important seat of the Condons that was granted to the Fleetwoods in 1588 after it was forfeited. The Condons wreaked their revenge in 1642 however, when they recovered it by subterfuge, sending in a brogue maker who got the garrison drunk on potcheen. After the garrison surrendered they were all murdered, wounded, or imprisoned. Even more tragically in 1643, the entire Condon garrison of twenty men, eleven women, and seven children who had surrendered to Sir Charles Vavasour were all massacred after he left the scene. The Moore family who bought the estate in 1684 and who were subsequently created Earls of Mountcashel in 1781, repaired the castle in the late C19.
