To the left of the fireplace is a hatch whereby occupants of this room could see into the Great Hall below. During the 15th & 16th centuries, women were not allowed to attend banquets and had to pass the time in more ladylike pursuits like sewing, other than feasting & drinking, but they could, via the hatch, view & criticise the revelry below that they were excluded from. This room also has a murder hole concealed beneath a loose wooden floor tile near the windows and positioned directly above the castle entrance.
