Loop Head Peninsula - Kilbaha - Church - The Little Ark
Placed inside a special annexe within the church is "The Little Ark", a small rectangular structure devised by Father Michael Meehan (1810-1878) in 1852 as a mobile place of worship when there was no site available in Kilbaha to build a church on. So, "The Little Ark" was built, carried to, and placed on no-man's land along the shore in Kilbaha between high & low tide. For the next four years, Father Meehan's congregation of about 300 would gather there every Sunday around "The Little Ark" to pray in all kinds of weather, until land was provided for this church in 1857. So, this church is also known as "The Church of The Little Ark".
