Lords and ladies, Helen's Bay (3)
Lords and ladies LinkExternal link , although common, tends to grow in very small and isolated groups, usually in the shade, under trees. It’s quite easy to pass by without noticing their presence except, in autumn, when the red berries make the plant very conspicuous. This one was on the western side of Clandeboye Avenue. For other examples (including other years) around Helen’s Bay and Crawfordsburn see LinkExternal link .
Wild berries, Northern Ireland

A selection of photographs showing some of the berries to be found on plants and hedges in Northern Ireland. Many are poisonous and should not be eaten. If in doubt – don’t.
