Flood defences at Frankwell car park, Shrewsbury
Shrewsbury is very vulnerable to flooding, being the first major bottleneck in the River Severn, which drains a large and mountainous portion of mid-Wales. The low-lying neighbourhood of Frankwell, across the river from the town centre, is one of the areas most at risk. These heavy-duty barriers allow the Frankwell car park to flood while keeping the more important parts dry, allowing access to the footbridge behind the camera. They clearly have the potential to cope with at least another couple of feet of water. See SJ4912 : Flooded Frankwell car park, Shrewsbury for a better view of the floods.
