The JF Kennedy Memorial Arboretum was opened in 1968 by the President, Éamonn de Valera. The Arboretum is only 6 km from the Kennedy ancestral home in Dunganstown S6922. The Ericaceous Garden is a particular pride of the collection and contains over a thousand different species of Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Heathers.
