Cumry House
Cumry House
The house occupies a commanding position overlooking the Dromore river valley to the North-West. In the 1840s it was the home of Samuel and Jane Irwin who later acquired the Greenvale farmland in Lisnagalliagh LinkExternal link
Two further generations of this family lived here; Francis, one of six Irwin sons, was a coachbuilder and farmer, and after him came his two sons. The names of both, Samuel and Robert Irwin, are inscribed on stones dated 1909 and built into the house. Samuel, the elder, was a farmer who served as a Sapper in the First World War during which the property was sold. For a period it was unoccupied and fell into disrepair. But it has since been rescued by the present owner – hence its smart modern aspect.
