Charminster: postbox № BH8 166, Charminster Road
This large Elizabeth II-reign postbox faces the former Lower Charminster Road post office, which had moved to a grocery store a little south about 15 years ago, although the postbox was never moved with it. (See also SZ0993 : Charminster: Lower Charminster Road Post Office.)
I lived at the junction of Firbank and Green Roads all through the 2nd WW and grew up climbing the wall in Green Rd into the Gardens, playing kids games with (to name a few) Dianne Goff, Andy Hewlitt and his sister Pat, the Andrews brothers, Sid Miles, Brian Habgood, Freddy Norman, Sonya Burman and her younger brother Jeffery. There was a park keeper in those days that made daily visits to ensure that we kept off the grass. We made camps in the bushes, climbed the trees and regarded it as our domain. I'd love to hear from anyone still alive who remembers those days between 1942 and 1952. Grahame Preece Ex 41a Firbank Road (Opposite Mary Sharpe's house and Sheila Weatherburn's.)
