The Irish Youth Hostel Association, An Óige, has just celebrated its 75th anniversary. One of the Association's earlier hostels was for women only, in this characterful house on the west side of the Robinstown - Trim road. It opened in 1938 and closed over winter 1942-43, when the lease was terminated. Usage had been disappointing. The equivalent men's hostel was a few hundred yards to the north, in square N8460. Very little has changed, probably, in the 65 years since closure. It's not known whether the building saw any use after its hostel days, but with a little imagination you can see the turf smoke rising and the bikes parked outside.
