Former railway embankment at Tewkesbury
Former railway embankment at Tewkesbury
This disused railway embankment crosses the Avon floodplain between Tewkesbury and Mythe Hill, the railway from Tewkesbury to Great Malvern opened in 1861 and closed a century later in 1961. Now more than 150 years after it was built, and around fifty years after its closure the embankment is to be removed. The plan to remove it was proposed by Severn Trent Water and supported by the Environment Agency, the view being that its removal will slightly reduce the peak level of floodwater on the Avon floodplain.
