In the foreground is the River Torridge. The estuary is a site of special scientific interest (SSSI), because of the wading birds, wildfowl and other wildlife which can be found there.

The settlement of Westleigh Devon. Saxon in origin, today it comprising approximately around fifty houses, an Inn and St Peters Church.

In 1579 Saxton, Christopher ( Map Maker ) marked this spot as the crossing point from Westleigh to Northam which is on the opposite river bank
