The snow covered foothills of Slieve Donard from the beach at Newcastle

Newcastle escaped the worst of the storm of March 21-24, 2013, which brought heavy snow and the loss of electricity supply to some 40,000 Ulster homes. Even so, the whole town joined the city of Belfast in being blacked out for a time on the evening of the 22nd.
