At 09.36 there was quite a long queue, on the inward lanes of the Sydenham bypass, stretching almost as far as the footbridge J3775 : Footbridge, Sydenham station, Belfast at Sydenham station. Work is underway at the Dee Street bridge J3674 : The Dee Street flyover, Belfast. It’s officially described by the Roads Service as “In east Belfast, a £300,000 essential improvement scheme is underway on Dee Street bridge over the Sydenham By-Pass and Bangor railway lines. The existing brick walls (parapets) on the bridge are being replaced for safety reasons. Dee Street bridge is closed to vehicular traffic until late April 2013. Pedestrian access will be maintained for the duration of the works. Once the bridge re-opens there will be a permanent 7.5t weight restriction in operation to reduce the risk of deterioration of the structure. Vehicles exceeding this weight that normally use Dee Street to access the harbour area will have to use an alternative route”.
