County cricket at Derby in April
A lazy journalistic cliche has it that the County Ground at Derby is the last place on earth anyone would want to be at the start of the season in April. Like a lot of journalism, that's nonsense, and a good crowd turned up at this friendly and welcoming ground for the first-ever Division One match between Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, which the visitors won by 9 wickets on the final day. Early on the sunny morning of the third day, Derbyshire's Tony Palladino bowled to James Taylor, who went on to make a slow but essential 112. The camera captured the moment from the big open stand at the Racecourse End.
