Harvey’s Point on Lough Eske (1)
These are the manicured lawns of the hotel at Harvey’s Point running south down to the waters edge. Harvey’s Point Hotel has a short but interesting history. It was established by a Swiss family who built a small guest house on a wooded site which they opened in 1989. Jody Gysling had been on holiday in Donegal when he found this “little piece of Switzerland in a bog on the shore of Lough Eske”. With the help of his brother Marc and a local Donegal girl, Deirdre McGlone, who later married Marc, they have developed the guest house into what today has become a luxurious hotel (AA 4 star), renowned for its cuisine, its warmly solicitous staff and its spectacular situation among the hills of Donegal. It is still owned and managed by the Swiss family Gysling, and was recently voted the best hotel in Ireland in the 2013 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards LinkExternal link
