Network Rail confirmed today that they have dropped their plans close and permanently remove this footbridge, which is known locally as Jacob's Ladder. The path predates the railway line and also the houses which have now appeared in the field in the background as well as much of the village itself.

Network Rail's rationale for closing the bridge was that the new bridge at Inverkip station negates the need for this one, but thanks to a campaign by locals, the need for both bridges was accepted.
