To enhance the wood and gardens of his demesne beside Lough Eske, Wallace obtained exotic seeds and cuttings from all over the world - including from the Imperial Gardens at Peking and the Palace Gardens in Kathmandu.
Ardnamona is an Oak wood of about 230 acres, which has over the centuries been left in its natural state, now rare in Ireland. It forms the major part of what has been described as "one of the most picturesque domains in Ireland’s rural landscape". See the pictures and story of its development at LinkExternal link
