Ardnamona Wood – Public Path
Ardnamona Wood – Public Path
Ardnamona is an Oak wood of about 230 acres on the western shore of Lough Eske. The wood has for centuries been left in its natural state, now rare in Ireland. The southern half of Ardnamona is open to the public G9684 : Ard-na-Mona Wood – the public entrance for whom this path has been provided by the Irish Parks & Wildlife Service. Visitors have much to see in this ancient woodland of predominantly broadleaf trees: Red squirrel, Badger, Fox and Mink are present, and the flora include Wood Sage, Bluebell, Foxglove, Bugle, Wild Garlic, Wood Sorrel, Lesser Celandine, Wood Anemone and Mosses galore.
