Gillespie monument, Comber (1)
This statue of Major General Robert “Rollo” Gillespie, who was born in Comber, stands high on a column in The Square. He was born in 1766 and died in the attack on Kalunga, in the Himalayas, on 24th October 1814. Out of ammunition he continued the attack - his last words reputedly were "one more shot for the honour of Down". The monument was erected in 1845.
