The Said Business School, University of Oxford
The Said Business School was established in 1996 and this new building was opened in 2001, despite student protests because of the source of the wealth of the major donor, Wafic Saïd, viz defence contracts with the UK involving arms deals. Earlier, there had been considerable controversy within the University about plans to build it on a green site off Mansfield Road but finally it was built here, on the site of the old Oxford Rewely Road Railway Station. Notice the amphitheatre at the back of the building.
The present Oxford Railway Station can be seen in the foreground directly below, and there is a good view of the Royal Oxford Hotel to the right of the picture. Behind SBS lies the Fire Station and to its right, Beaver House, built by Blackwell Bookshop and now occupied by the University Administration.
