NS6126 : Gleying in glacial till

taken 17 years ago, near to Limmerhaugh Muir, East Ayrshire, Scotland

Gleying in glacial till
Gleying in glacial till
Gleying results in soils which have a tendency to become waterlogged. The parent material here was glacial till which had both grass and a nearby stand of deciduous trees growing on it. The thin black layer at the bottom of the grey layer, is redeposited organic material carried down from the surface by rain water.
