NZ6610 : Man Made Pond, Foul Green, Commondale I have received the following email from Chris Higgins:

"I've just seen your info on these ponds. I grew up in Commondale & can tell you more about these ponds. They were in fact an attempt by the landlord of the Cleveland Inn in Commondale to set up a fish farm. Unfortunatley, he didn't realise that the bank between the ponds and the stream (the old railway embankment for a railway line that use to link the brickworks to the main line) was pourus! as such the "ponds" have never held a great depth of water for very long! This site used to be a field with a number of old trees until approx 20 years ago. The land between the two ponds was created with a bulldozer at this time. I hope this is of interest."
