taken 11 years ago, 4 km NNE of Attical, Co Down, Northern Ireland

Former granite quarrymen's work shelter.
Former granite quarrymen's work shelter.
In the Welsh granite industry such shelters were called 'Waliau' (meaning walls). It was here in all weathers with just a wall for protection that the quarried granite was dressed (cut into shape). Such structures are common in the Mournes.
