Two Dunns headstones, Holywood
Two adjacent headstones both of which mark the graves of people with the surname “Dunn”. The one on the left reads “Erected by Hugh Dunn Strantown [sic] AD1815 Died on the 2nd March 1850 Susanna wife of Hugh Dunn Aged 75 years Also the above Hugh Dunn who departed this life the 2nd January 1861”. There is more but it’s hidden by grass. The one on the right reads “Erected by William Trimble of Belfast in memory of his son Thomas Dunn who departed this life Jany 20th 1849 aged 4 years & 6 months Also his son Thomas Dunn who died the 12th of August 1850 aged 14 months Also his daughter Mary Jane who died the 30th of May 1865 aged 10 years Also his son Captn Hugh Dunn who died at sea July 10th 1870 aged 27 years”.
The Priory church and graveyard, Holywood
The Priory stands at the Bangor end of High Street surrounded by modern development. It was built as a parish church in about 1200. It later became a Franciscan friary, reverting to the status of a parish church after restoration in 1615. It became disused in the middle of the 19th century when replaced by a new parish church.
