The train is working a shuttle service from Cheltenham to Kemble; the service would usually extend to Swindon, but the single-track line between Kemble and Swindon is currently closed for re-doubling.
I was born down Regent St, Stonehouse, and lived there 1920-39 and 1943-7. The shops on the right of the picture, at the top of Regent St, were Mullins and Bradley's, clothes shops for women and for men. The spire which is mentioned was the Methodist Church which was also Wycliffe College Chapel. On the extreme left was Miss Davis's sweet shop. The Post Office (from outside which the view was taken) used to be much further up the village, but this 'new' Post Office was built in the 1930s.
