Lord Kelvin's statue, Botanic Gardens, Belfast

Lord Kelvin was born as William Thomson in College Square East J3374 : College Square East, Belfast, Belfast in 1824. He made many contributions to science (all of which are beyond me). They include contributions to thermodynamics, electromagnetic theory, communication (first transatlantic cable link) and contact potentials. He was knighted in 1866 and received the title Baron Kelvin of Largs in 1892. The statue, at the Stranmillis Road entrance to the Botanic Gardens, is by Albert Bruce Joy on a pedestal designed by Richardson and Gill. More information about Kelvin’s life can be found at LinkExternal link and LinkExternal link.
