The 'Mytilus' departing Bangor
The mussel dredger 'Mytilus' LinkExternal link & LinkExternal link departing Bangor harbour with seed mussels for Belfast Lough. Mussel dredgers are now fairly rare at Bangor with only one boat (the 'Maria Lena') still using the harbour regularly. August 2013 saw a small flurry of activity with boats calling in as seed mussels were being taken from the Cumbrian coast near Barrow-in-Furness to Belfast Lough.
