Carved stone at Clonfinlough
Carved stone at Clonfinlough
The Clonfinlough stone, a glacial erratic, is decorated with carvings. Some of these it is suggested date back to the Bronze Age. The profusion of crosses amongst the carved figures would however date them to the Middle Ages. Clonfinlough was on the pilgrimage route to Clonmacnoise. Similar carvings are to be found on rocks on medieval pilgrimage routes in Spain.
