The Old Market Square, Clonmellon
The urban fabric of Clonmellon owes much to its refurbishment by the Protestant Chapman family in the 1840s. Benjamin James Chapman MP, the local squire was spurred into action by the comment that his estate village of Clonmellon was "but a place of thatches and vagrant cattle". He embarked on a project of rebuilding. One of the improvements was the construction of a Market Square in 1842, incorporating a pre-existing market building. The Old Market Square is now home to the Ms Gua Chinese Restaurant.
