J3979 : "Autoflex" access cover, Holywood

taken 11 years ago, near to Holywood, Co Down, Northern Ireland

"Autoflex" access cover, Holywood
"Autoflex" access cover, Holywood
One of several similar access covers, along the Holywood bypass between the Shore Road and Sullivan Place. There is no maker’s name but it has the inscription “Autoflex GEC-Elliott Traffic Automation Ltd”. Research into the latter led me into a series of mergers, de-mergers and acquisitions – all too complicated for this caption.
The Holywood bypass

A stretch of road opened in 1972 (and then called the Holywood through pass), on the Belfast – Bangor road, from near Palace Barracks to the Croft Road.
