Picking up and setting down, New Street station southeast
Access from both directions (east and west on Queen's Drive) has been modified here because of building works to refurbish the station. This access was closed in April 2013 for works to this side of the building. This part of the station can be seen above centre in SP0786 : Birmingham New Street railway station, 2011. The line of Queen's Drive is at high level by Station Street in SP0686 : Birmingham New Street Station Redevelopment although closed for contractor's site cabins to be stacked up on it.
Ref image of Derelict Building corner of Bromsgrove Street and Lower Essex Street, it had been a hotel and subsequently a Trade Union office. Its frontage is protected and the site belongs to Crosby, the same developers as put up i-Land and Southside opposite. My understanding is that its facade will be incorporated into the new building but of course as of the time of writing (Jan 2011) most such developments are on hold pending an improvement in the market.
