Castles of Leinster: Mackmine, Wexford
Castles of Leinster: Mackmine, Wexford
First appearances suggest that this ruined mansion on a pig farm belongs entirely to the C19. However, the large tower on the SE corner is in fact medieval, having been disguised with rendering, new windows, and an added slightly projecting fifth storey complete with added battlements, and round cornered turrets. There has been a castle here since Norman times when the Fitzhenry family held it until 1654, when it was confiscated.
