A three storey fragment of the north part of the east wall is all that remains of a tower that once closed off a triangular court of a small promontory on the north side of the Mizen Peninsula. Donal O'Mahoney was said to have built it in c.1460, probably on the site of an older fort. Subsequently burnt by the O'Mahoneys after the confiscations of the 1580s, it was finally captured by the English in 1602.
