A promontory close to Toormore Bay is now linked to the mainland by a modern concrete bridge upon which stands a former O'Mahoney tower that has been restored. It was beseiged in 1602 by Robert Harvey after he brought up a "sow" to successfully breach its landward wall, and in 1641 it was deliberately set on fire to prevent the O'Mahoneys from using it.
