There are ornate ogival headed windows with sunk spandrels on the upper levels, this example on the north side having an elaborate hoodmould with horned terminals. They display elaborate carvings of spirals, birds, florets, a fern leaf etc., as well as geometric designs. They date from the renovations of 1598 undertaken by Brian MacSwiney that marked a shift in emphasis from defensive to domestic.
