Castles of Munster: Carrigabrick, Cork (1)
High above the River Blackwater is a circular 5 storey tower built by Richard Condon, Sheriff of Cork. Not an easy castle to get to, it stands on a plateau above an escarpment on the east side of the river, close to and level with the height of the now disused Malloy to Fermoy railway viaduct W8299 : The old railway viaduct at Carrigabrick. In 1588 it was forfeited and granted to Arthur Power, but burnt by rebel Irish during the 1640s.
