Kilcaskan Castle, Ballineen
Kilcaskan Castle, Ballineen
This is a castellated house with gothic embellishments built sometime after 1712 but probably remodelled in the 'gothic revival' style during the early C19. The owners were a branch of the Daunt family who bought the land and owned it until 1988. A former occupant Joseph Daunt had the dubious distinction in 1826 of being the last person killed in a duel in Ireland by none other than his cousin and neighbour from Manch House across the River Bandon. The current owners have undertaken a long-term restoration of the house and grounds. LinkExternal link
