The Birmingham Main Line here is about to start descending the flight of twenty-one locks to the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal at Aldersley Junction. Locks are now fitted with anti-vandal devices, so progress can be slow. The locks lower the water level by 132 feet (40 metres) in about two miles.
Moored boats in the branch off to the left are in what remains of the link to Victoria Basin, long since filled in.
