One of the capitals of the Corinthian portico of ST5872 : 17-31 Park Street, Bristol. The detail is derived from the Temple of Apollo at Bassae in Greece. The ceiling behind is coffered and the soffit of the entablature is also decorated.
The Corinthian is the most ornate of the three Classical Greek orders (the Romans later upped the ante with some architectural bling, the Composite order, a fusion of Corinthian and Ionic). Acanthus leaves and scrolls are usually to be found, together with a variety of other enrichments.
