Galway - Galway (St Nicholas) Cathedral - South & East Sides
View is to the north from Gaol Road. Massive Galway Cathedral, also known as the "Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven and St Nicholas", is said to be the last stone cathedral built in western Europe. It was built on the site of the former county jail on an island with the Eglington Canal to the north & west and the River Corrib to the east. Arguably, it is Galway's most impressive building.
