The United Irishmen's Memorial on Tara Hill
On 2 May 1798, 4,000 United Irishmen encamped on Tara Hill were attacked by a British force numbering only 400. Outmanoeuvered and outgunned, the rebels were routed with some 400 being killed. This effectively marked the ending of the rebellion in Leinster.
