Gypsum quarried in Co Monaghan is used to make plaster and plaster boards in the Kingscourt area. Gyproc have a plaster board factory closer to the town. Up to 2001 gypsum was transferred from Kingscourt to the cement works at Platin near Drogheda by rail but following a rail strike the gypsum company switched to using road transport.
