This picture show the final stages of construction of the Jetty at Gulf Oil's terminal at Whiddy Island (?1969). This is the site of the subsequent Whiddy Island disaster (Betelgeuse incident). 50 people lost their lives on the 8th of January 1979 as a result of an accident during the transfer of oil from a ship.
