Grand Parade, Cork
This is Grand Parade, in Cork City taken on a non-busy Sunday afternoon. In the background is the western entrance to the world famous English Market.
In the foreground, the strange looking bollard is actually all you can see of the back end of a buried cannon!
Grand Parade is now one of the main shopping streets in Cork - but it wasn't always so - originally it was actually a navigable channel between the two branches of the river Lee. The cannon was placed here to moor ships.
